Tenuta le Querce

The Cellar

We have created a very modern concept, with an area of over two thousand square meters, developed by digging into the layers of tuff, a porous volcanic rock deposited by the Vulture over thousands of years. The space is kept at a constant temperature all year round and provides the ideal condition for refining wine. The winery is dominated by a monumental in situ sculpture by Giacinto Cerone, an artist originally from Melfi. It is his largest and most unusual work, a symbol of fertility that is crafted from a mixture of materials from nature, wood, plaster and hemp. This work of art is a tribute to the grandeur and virtue of the “Aglianico del Vulture” vine.

The Vineyards

The company encompasses 53 hectares, of which 33 hectares are vineyards. The new vineyards have been specially designed to suit the ecosystem of the area. They are characterized by a high density of strains per hectare, with a spurred cordon rearing system that produces a very low strain production. The aim is to produce a lower yield but only of the highest quality.

The Grapes

The main vine cultivated in the estate is Aglianico. This is the ancient Hellenicus of Greek origin praised by Quinto Orazio Flacco, a Latin poet. The vines have undergone careful scientific investigation, through which the best clones have been identified, guaranteeing excellent quality. Studies are still ongoing.
